Essential Quality of an Athlete
Thinking smarter and training the entire kinetic chain are essential for longevity and skill. At some point, raw strength training won’t get any more results. The lateral system is the number one issue in training – it is difficult to target and often overlooked in self-training.
Here is the STPro Mastery Test – and the “Why We Train the Lateral System” speech most commonly shared with high performance athletes. It is essential to understand your body as a dynamic generator of rotational force – and it’s companion – stabilizer under the force of momentum and gravity. And, to test this system regularly – keep the machine tuned and humming.
Step 1:
Test Yourself: Roundhouse Kicks
Test: Generating Force from the Entire Kinetic Chain and Resisting Destabilizing Effects of Gravity & Momentum
Step 2: How Did That Go?
- Can you feel the force variances between kicks?
- Can you find the standing “crunch” in the form? (hint in above L arm crunch in towards R leg)
- Can you feel the increase in speed, power and control from incorporating the opposition arms in “push-pull”?
- Did you feel any bone rattling or stress in the lumbar? (not good)
- Not sure?

Know Your Kinetic Chain – there will be a quiz later.
Pop-Quiz: Which one is the “packed” or core-engaged shoulder?

Step 3: Roundhouse kicks can be a make or break training move. A Master will use this to troubleshoot weaknesses in the kinetic chain.
